Setting Up Your Polk Audio Soundbar: A Complete Installation Guide

A quality soundbar can transform your TV viewing experience, and Polk Audio soundbars are known for their excellent sound quality and ease of setup. This comprehensive guide walks you through the installation and configuration process.

Unboxing your Polk Audio soundbar, you'll find the soundbar itself, a subwoofer (on models that include one), remote control, power cables, and connection cables. Some models also include wall-mounting hardware. Lay everything out and verify you have all components before beginning installation.

Placement is crucial for optimal sound quality. The soundbar should be positioned directly in front of your TV, either on the TV stand or wall-mounted below the TV. Ensure the soundbar doesn't block your TV's remote sensor. The subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, though corner placement often provides the best bass response.

Connection options include HDMI ARC, optical audio, and Bluetooth. HDMI ARC is the preferred connection method as it provides the best sound quality and allows you to control the soundbar volume with your TV remote. If your TV doesn't support HDMI ARC, optical audio is an excellent alternative.

Connecting via HDMI ARC requires an HDMI cable (usually included) connected between the soundbar's HDMI ARC port and your TV's HDMI ARC port. Once connected, enable HDMI ARC in your TV's settings menu. The TV should automatically detect the soundbar and route audio to it.

Subwoofer pairing is typically automatic on wireless subwoofers. Power on both the soundbar and subwoofer, and they should connect automatically. If they don't pair automatically, consult your manual for the pairing button sequence. A solid light on the subwoofer indicates successful pairing.

Initial configuration involves setting the input source and adjusting basic settings. Use the soundbar's remote to select the correct input (HDMI, optical, etc.). Most soundbars have multiple sound modes—movie, music, news, etc.—that optimize the sound for different content types.

Calibration ensures optimal sound for your room. Some Polk Audio soundbars include automatic calibration that uses a microphone to measure your room's acoustics and adjust settings accordingly. If your model doesn't have automatic calibration, manually adjust the bass and treble to your preference.

Volume leveling prevents jarring volume changes between different content sources. Enable this feature in the soundbar's settings to maintain consistent volume when switching between TV channels, streaming apps, or external devices.

Connecting additional devices like game consoles or Blu-ray players can be done through your TV or directly to the soundbar if it has multiple HDMI inputs. Connecting through the soundbar often provides better sound quality and more convenient switching between devices.

Bluetooth connectivity allows you to stream music from your smartphone or tablet. Put the soundbar in Bluetooth pairing mode, then select it from your device's Bluetooth menu. Once paired, you can play music through the soundbar without turning on your TV.

Wall mounting provides a clean, space-saving installation. Use the included mounting template to mark drill holes, ensuring they're level. Use appropriate anchors for your wall type—drywall anchors for drywall, or drill into studs for the most secure mounting.

Troubleshooting common issues: If you don't hear sound, verify the correct input is selected and cables are firmly connected. If the subwoofer isn't working, check that it's powered on and paired. If sound is out of sync with video, adjust the audio delay setting in the soundbar's menu.
